Professional Counselor Associate

“Come as You Are” –Nirvana

I am a professional counselor associate working towards full licensure. I grew up in Washington State surrounded by both nature and city life, and I am finding a lot of similarities between my hometown and Eugene. In my free time, I love to read and dance, spend time outside, try new recipes with my partner, and play with my cat Ottie. I have had a passion for mental health since middle school, where my school counselor made a lasting impact on my own mental health, and I continue to find new things to love about the mental health field every day. Feeling safe to walk into the therapeutic environment, as whoever you are that day, is very important to me. So, I like to collaborate with clients in laying a foundation for a therapeutic relationship where you feel you are being met with acceptance and understanding, and where you do not feel burdened with expectations or a need to perform.

Ashleigh's Approach

My approach to therapy is client-centered and non-judgmental, and based on the tenets of trauma-informed and multicultural practices. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy that will mold and change with you as you begin the therapeutic process and move through life. I tend to use a Relational Cultural therapy lens that acknowledges the impact that relationships have on your interactions with the world and aims to help you create and maintain growth-fostering relationships that will support you outside of the therapeutic environment, including your relationship with yourself. Your intersections (e.g., gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, spirituality, ability, age, etc.) as a human being are important to how you navigate life and the therapeutic relationship, so we will take time to explore these as I get to know you and you find further understanding of yourself. In the therapy room, I frequently use somatic and mindfulness-based practices to connect your brain and body. This means that, alongside traditional talk therapy, we will likely be up and moving around from time to time. I pull from a variety of theoretical models because I believe that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach to counseling.
