Karen Marie, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a mother with 3 adult children. My youngest is starting his freshman year at college. My family is multicultural, and my son is bi-racial. I have been a counselor working with children and families for over 10 years. I worked in the field of social services and Child advocacy prior to becoming a counselor. I graduated from Corban University in 2012 with my Masters degree in Counseling. I spent my first year and a half working for a non-profit focused on providing counseling services to familiar children. Then I opened my own private practice and spent the next 10 years specializing in trauma based therapy. I decided to close my private practice and spent a year working for a Child Abuse Center before going to work at the Child and Family out patient clinic at Peacehealth.

Karen's Approach

I used an integrative approach to therapy which is primarily based on the needs of the client and the therapeutic approach best suited based on research. My therapeutic focus is grounded in Family System Therapy and Traum Focused therapy when appropriate. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy frequently, and I am trained in Child Play Therapy for younger children. I have also received specialized certification in trainings for Lifestory Work for Children with Trauma and Therapy with Foster and Adoptive Children and Families.
