Indy Knox

Professional Counselor Associate

Hello! My name is Indy Knox. Born in Amsterdam, I have been living in Seattle for the last seven years studying how to become a counselor. While I love hiking and getting outdoors, the majority of my hobbies are inside, such as reading fantasy, writing stories, and playing board games with friends!

Indy's Approach

My approach in counseling is founded on the belief that through effort and guidance, all people can overcome the issues that lay within their experience. My role is to be the guide through the trial, while the client is the teacher and expert. From this philosophy of counseling, I have found it important not only to be present and focus on what we can change, but that we are the authors of our own story. The current narrative is not set in stone, and we can choose to see ourselves in the ways that we dictate.

The models that I use are mindful and constructive. Primarily, I work out of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy, as well as CBT and Mindfulness practices. Since my approach is integrative, there are some other modalities that I can integrate on a case-by-case basis, often specialized for each individual client.

More About Indy Knox

Experience

During my time in graduate school, I worked as a behavioral technician help children on the spectrum with ADLs. At this position, I worked with clients who were children, adolescents, and young adults experience a variety of challenges and from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. As a counselor, I believe that all clinicians should be applying and learning new and relevant modalities, as well as building onto an established personal approach that is unique per client. Sometimes adding a tool to the toolbelt may be the best help for a client and their journey with mental health.

Education

I earned a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling both from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington.
