Michael (Mike) Myers, Ph.D.

Licensed psychologist

Arise Albany Therapist

My name is Mike Myers. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I received my PhD from Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, CA, and did my Residency in Pain Management at the Pain Center in Springfield, OR. I have been working as a psychologist in Albany for some 30 years. Born in Texas, as an Army BRAT, I grew up and later worked in Germany. I also have a passion for Men’s Work and multi-cultural issues. And when not ‘working’ I love exploring Oregon, photography, bird-watching, and learning.

I offer individual Psychotherapy and Counseling

for children from 6 – 12, teens, and adults.

Some of the issues I deal with include:

Anxiety, Panic, Worry or Stress

Depression, Bipolar Disorders

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

Trauma Related Disorders

Life transition issues

Pain Management issues

Cultural and diversity issues

Relationship issues

I also specialize in diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Attention Deficit Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and other ‘learning disorders’

I also help individuals whose ‘troubles’ don’t fit neatly into one of the usual diagnostic categories. Individuals don’t always fit neatly into categories. That’s how the brain is.

Besides, I love a challenge.

My belief is that people typically ‘do the best they can with what they’ve been given.’ Many, if not all of us, reach a point where what we’ve been taught to do doesn’t work for us anymore. That’s where the work of a counselor or psychotherapist begins. We help people look at what’s working and what’s not in their life, learning why they do what we’ve been doing, and making changes to live a more authentic and satisfying life, one that allows us to be who we really are meant to be. You don’t have to be ‘broken’ to want a better life. You just have to want ‘something better’… and be willing to put in the time and work to make it happen.

Therapeutic Focus

I believe that life is about solving problems in a good way. And the more tools you have in your toolbox, the more problems you can solve. I draw from tools and insights from all the different models and approaches I’ve been trained in [and a few I have developed along the way] to help people understand the problems they are facing in new ways, figure out what tools they need to ‘fix things,’ and apply the tools to create the life they want to live instead of being in stuck in patterns that aren’t working for them.

I have worked as a Clinical Psychologist with adults, children, and teens in Albany for 30 years or so. Prior that I worked and was trained as a psychotherapist at Huron Valley Institute in Michigan. I have also been a Minister, an Organizational Consultant, and before that worked in photography.

Formal Training and Education

I have a PhD and Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from The Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. I received my early training [12 years] in psychotherapy at Huron Valley Institute in Michigan in Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Neurolinguistic Programming, Family Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, and the New Identity Process. Since then, I have trained extensively in assessment and treatment of ADHD, anxiety disorders, and telementalhealth.
