COUNSELING & PSYCHOTHERAPY for Children, Teenagers, Adults and Couples

Lori Kloss,   Professional Counselor Associate

Arise Albany

My name is Lori Kloss, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern, having earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from George Fox University's CACREP Accredited Program. I provided therapy and case management to adults, teens and children over the past two years at Sequoia Mental Health Services in Aloha, where I also co-led a Seeking Safety Group, along with a children's Expressive Art group. I have also volunteered with Trillium Family Services. I am originally from Vancouver, BC and moved to Oregon in 2014 to start a new family and begin this rewarding career in counseling. I enjoy making jewelry, collecting vintage fashion dolls, hunting antiques and energy re-boots on the beautiful Oregon Coast.

Can I help you ?

I work with adults and teens who are experiencing:

Anxiety and related disorders (i.e: generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, agoraphobia)

Depression and depressive symptoms (i.e: feelings of sadness and helplessness, loss of motivation, fatigue, seasonal affects, lack of interest in activities)

Sleep Hygiene Issues

Trauma (i.e: post-traumatic stress due to loss, abuse, attachment injury from development)

I also support clients to safely explore and process connectedness and authenticity around Identity and Safety, in areas such as sexuality/attraction, racial/ethnic/cultural aspects, or spirituality/personal meaning.

I approach therapy from an open, non-judgmental way, personalized to address the needs, goals and pace of each person. My training as a family systems therapist aims to holistically incorporate family, cultural and environmental influences, along with personal meaning or spirituality to support clients to increase their self-compassion and self-care practices, improve relationships and increase trust and safety. Collaboratively, I support clients to increase awareness of perceptions, behaviors, and relating patterns that may no longer serve. As insight requires agency to foster change, I encourage clients towards self-empowerment to transform their growing awareness and increased skill sets into long-term health and wellbeing.

Therapeutic Focus

I utilize an integration of Person-Centered therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (with trauma-informed aspects and emotional connecting), Solution-Focused therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Restoration Therapy to help clients process their experience of care, trust and safety from their developing years into adulthood. Such an integrated approach has been shown to effectively help people recognize patterns from the past and begin incorporating mindfulness-based techniques into their lives.

I also value creative energy, and use expressive forms such as painting, journaling, music, sand tray therapy, and grounding techniques to improve ways of coping and connect clients to identify and utilize personal strengths and increased opportunities.

During 2019 I completed my student internship program with Sequoia Mental Health Services, a community agency funded by Washington County located in Aloha, Oregon. I gained valuable experience working in this trauma-informed and strengths-based environment, where I co-facilitated a Women's Seeking Safety group and children's Expressive Art group. After earning my Master's degree, I continued with Sequoia as a full-time Client Care Coordinator providing therapy and case management services for a varied client caseload. I joined Arise Counseling Service, Albany location in November, 2020 as a Mental Health Therapist. I am very happy and thankful to continue this greatly valued work with the amazing team at Arise.

Formal Training and Education

I am currently working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon: Registered Associate  number R6296. I earned a joint Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Anthropology in 2001, and my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2020 from George Fox University.
