COUNSELING & PSYCHOTHERAPY for Children, Teenagers, Adults and Couples

Julie Ford, LCSW

Arise Albany

Hi, my name is Julie Ford. I am a Clinical Social Worker, licensed to practice in Oregon and Utah. I spent my formative years in San Diego. As an adult, I’ve lived all over the United States, including Texas, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Southern Utah. In December (2020), I relocated with my husband and our Scottish Fold cat to the enchanted State of Oregon. As a mother of two grown daughters, I have first-hand experience traversing the complexities of parenting. When I’m not working with individuals, I enjoy yoga, biking, fiction writing, and gardening. I look forward to meeting you!

Can I help you ?

I offer individual Psychotherapy and Counseling for teens, young adults, and adults.

Psychotherapy and counseling can be helpful in a variety of issues. You can ask for my help if you have challenges in the the following areas:

Anxiety, Panic, Worry or Stress

Depression, Bipolar Disorders

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders

Trauma Related Disorders

Motivation, self-worth, life transition

LGBTQ issues

Approach

I work from a philosophy that all emotions are “good” emotions. Like positive emotions, hard emotions give you insight into who you are and what is important to you. Through specialized skills, I’ll teach you to both understand and manage the emotions and behaviors that stand between you and the life you desire. I know how much courage it requires to take that first step toward vulnerability and healing. Together we will set goals and then make adjustments as your needs change and your strengths grow.

Therapeutic Focus

I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, as well as trained in multiple therapeutic modalities, which allow me to tailor treatment to your individual needs. I believe that critical awareness is the key to unlocking the source of problem behaviors. Therefore, I offer psychoeducation into the mind/body/behavior connection. As a strong believer in the healing qualities of daily mindfulness practice, I’ll help you identify the best grounding/opening strategies for your specific preferences.

Experience

Professionally, I have worked as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Instructor and small Business Owner/Manager. As an LCSW, I have experience working in residential care with teens in crisis. I also spent a year helping teens and young adults in an intensive outpatient program, where I gained experience with families and groups. In addition, I enjoy working with adults through individual therapy.

Formal Training and Education

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Masters in Social Work (2006). I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Diego State University (1992). I have completed a trauma certification program, am DBT informed, and have engaged in professional trainings for Internal Family Systems and Motivational Interviewing.
