COUNSELING & PSYCHOTHERAPY for Children, Teenagers, Adults and Couples

Heather Johnson, LPC-Intern

My name is Heather Johnson (1987), I hold a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Northwest Christian University here in Eugene, OR. I am originally from Florida and have lived in Oregon since 1999.

My fundamental belief is that we already possess everything we need to thrive within ourselves but sometimes discovering this is easier when we are not alone on our journey. When we work towards self-discovery we, in turn, also improve our interpersonal relationships, work-life balance, are able to better overcome life challenges and create the life we truly desire.

Your present circumstances don't determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.

Can I help  you?

I am excited to work with a vast array of clients to include those in the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and those with criminal and substance use histories. I work with adults and adolescents aged 15 and up.

Besides regular office appointments, I offer confidential telephone and online counseling services for clients who are seeking remote counseling for various reasons

Trauma and PTSD                                Depression

Grief                                                       Veteran issues

Self-Harming                                        Anxiety

Addiction                                               Stress

Suicidal Ideation

I work with clients to live authentic lives. I am influenced by the work of Brené Brown, who writes, "We are all made of strength and struggle." I will encourage you to acknowledge and build upon your strengths and I will support you through your struggles. My goal is to assist you in moving towards self-acceptance and away from shame and self-doubt. I strive to be authentic, compassionate, and respectful, and to foster a relationship where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and understood. I am committed to working with clients, from a place of respect and compassion, to meet their unique health and wellness goals, whether mental, emotional, spiritual, physical, or social. Above everything, I offer you a safe, respectful place to be seen for who you are and to have your story fully heard. We will work together to realize your goals and find your unique path to healing. I respect the courage that it takes to begin this journey and encourage you to take another step towards wellness by contacting me today.

Therapeutic Focus

I utilize various modalities including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, trauma-sensitive, mind-body and solution focused treatments aiming to increase conscious awareness, replace habits that no longer serve the client and practice loving-kindness with self and others. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) with particular emphasis on mindfulness-based approaches. My overriding goal is to help you to identify and enhance your strengths and overcome challenging and maladaptive thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Often, the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors causing us the most difficulty right now have their roots in old coping strategies that once helped us to survive and care for ourselves. If you are struggling or feel stuck, it may be that you are ready to let go of these old patterns and find new ways of being that fit with who you are today and who you want to be in the future.

I have worked as a therapist in a wide range of settings since 2014. Some of the locations I have practiced include a substance abuse recovery program, the county jail, a child therapy center, a crisis center, and municipal and circuit court mental health therapy.
