Enid Richey, Ph.D.

Licensed Psychologist

TeleHealth Therapist

Originally from New York City where I studied art, I began practicing in Southern California in 1986 as a licensed marriage and family therapist and in 1996, as a licensed clinical psychologist. I moved to Eugene in June 2017, where I am licensed in the State of Oregon as both an MFT and Psychologist. I am also a nationally certified Master Addiction Counselor and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist.

My compassion and dedication to alleviate suffering expands to all beings. As an animal advocate, since 2001 I have been working with many rescue organizations to change the fate of homeless and abused dogs.

I see therapy as an opportunity to explore one’s life with compassion, hope and resiliency. How often we get stuck in painful memories leading to depression and despair, or trying to control the future which results in anxiety, worry and at times, terror. The human brain is wired for negativity. While this can be understood, it is not ‘carved in stone.’ The good news is that research shows that we are able to change this. Therapy, in a sense, gives one permission to make healthy choices and much deserved change. At times this may be painful, yet through supportive and encouraging team work, the outcome is the gift.

Therapeutic Focus

My approach to therapy is: one size does 'not' fit all. Each person is their own unique being, with their own world view, thoughts, perceptions and values. My therapeutic approach is one of respect, borrowing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies: Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy as well as Humanistic Therapies. I integrate Psychodynamic exploration in my approach to help recognize, identify, accept and work through unresolved developmental issues. I also employ various Recovery-Based models for the treatment of substance use, dual diagnosis and co-dependency.

I have been a licensed mental health professional since 1986. I work with a variety of psychological, emotional and substance related disorders. Prior to becoming a mental health professional, I worked in veterinary clinics where I learned the true art of compassion.

I am also Full-Time Faculty at an accredited on-line university where I teach masters and doctoral level students and coordinate curriculum development in the School of Behavioral Sciences, since 1993.
