Candice Guertin,

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate

Arise Albany Therapist

Hello! My name is Candice Guertin and I am happy that you have found your way to my page. I’m originally from the Midwest, but fell in love with Oregon’s nature and now consider it my home. I am a Christian. My Christianity has shaped my view of life. You can trust that I respect your personal beliefs and lifestyle, whether they are similar to mine, or completely different.

I am a certified yoga instructor and enjoy long distance running, hiking, and basically any activities that bring me outdoors. I also have big love for animals (horses and dogs!) and have a chocolate lab named River who has been one of my greatest teachers in learning the importance fo play and rest.

I have a warm, relational approach to therapy. I look to all aspects of a person’s being to help better understand and help my clients implement change. I believe we all need a solid toolkit to help navigate the ups and downs of life and hope to help individuals cultivate resilience.

Therapeutic Focus

I utilize several different therapeutic modalities with my clients. One of the modalities I use is Systemic therapy, which, stems from the assumption that how you think, feel, and behave is largely dependent upon your role in your relationship, groups, and other life scenarios. I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which teaches a client how to change their thinking patterns and behavioral patterns by better understanding their behaviors, emotions, and motivations. Additionally, I use somatic therapy where I use mind/body techniques (yoga and breath work) to help release tension that is negatively affecting your physical and emotional well-being.

I am currently a registered Marriage and Family therapy Associate working towards licensure in the state of Oregon. In Graduate school I fulfilled my practicum at Minnesota’s top mental health facility for children at Washburn Center for Children, I then worked as a Child and Family Therapist at Trillium before joining Arise.

Formal Training and Education

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from the University of St. Thomas. I then worked in corporate business as a Senior Recruiter for several years before discovering my passion of helping others. I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Adler Graduate School.
